My Summer

Once again, time has gotten away from me!  I thought maybe I should give you an update of what our summer has been like.

Jessy and Rachel on the Silly Silo
Hectic, that's for sure!  But, I've loved every minute of it!!!!!  We started the summer off with a trip to Adventureland in Des Moines.  It was a great day, and everyone got along so well for the whole day...which is no small miracle.  Adventureland was smaller than I remember it from when I was a kid,  but that was because they have added a waterpark, and I had no clue that was included in admission.  Next time we go, we WILL be wearing swimsuits!

After Adventureland, we spent a few weeks at home, going to Cedar Falls only once for Sturgis Falls.  Gotta tell ya, I love that town.  It will always be home to me.

Rachel's Taco Bell Softball team
Let's see...then it was baseball/softball season.  Rachel played for the first time this year, and LOVED it.  Her coaches were great, and very patient with a group of beginners!  The whole team had fun, and Rachel followed her sisters tradition of loving up with the coaches, earning her a special treat from one of them.  She sure is a charmer!

Andrew also played baseball this year, and loved it.  His team went on to very well in the championship, although I'll be honest I don't know how they finished because we missed the last few games of the tournament because.....Andrew went to Germany!  Yep, you read that right.  My parents have decided to make it a tradition to let the grandkids go on  a trip the summer before they turn 13, anywhere they want to go!  Andrew choose Germnay, and since my parents know people there, they had the adventure of a lifetime.  I tried to give Andrew a notebook to write some of it down, but, being a 12 year old boy, that didn't happen!!  We're going to try to give him a blog page, though and see if he can remember any of it. Plus, he'll have plenty of pictures....when we get those developed!
Leif Erikson Park Duluth

Before Andrew went to Germany, we spent a week up at the Cabin.  Now, when Dad and Mom built this place, I really did not think we'd be up there very much.  It's a VERY long drive, and um, it's Minnesota!  I'm not much of an outdoor girl...   Well, Duluth and the Cabin are growing on me.  Largely in part of the fact that I'm spoiled rotten when I go up there!  I do nothing, except read, knit, boat, and ATV!  Ahhh, the life, lol.  A day in town shopping and a girl has all she needs!  We also stopped by Leif Ericson park this year, and the kids had a blast wading in Lake Superior.  In fact, they requested we go back, which we did on the way home.  I was very pleasantly surprised at how warm the water was...usually it's really cold, but this time it felt fabulous, like bath water.  I think it may have had something to do with the fact that it has been so hot, even up there.

Let's see, other than that, the only eventful thing to mention about this summer is the rain.  It has rained, and rained, and rained.  One night we had something like 4 tornado warnings in one night.  I happened to be alone that night, and spent a LOT of time in my basement, facebooking with all my single friends.  It passed the time....;)

Chewie
Oh, and I almost forgot.  (and this is way out of order, sorry!)  We have a new addition to our family.  Chewbacca joined us at the very beginning of the summer, and has been so much fun.  She is a very frisky kitten, who loves to play with anything that moves, and is always sitting on my lap or my chest or draped across my shoulder (her choice, not mine!!)  It's almost like having a baby again!

And now, the summer is quickly winding down.  How is it that the two and a half months of summer go so very quickly?  I'm starting to get back into the school mood, slowly.  The other day, I was filling out my plan book for school, and Chewie decided I was done.  She sat  down on Spring Break, and wouldn't move.  Yeah, I get it, let's just slow down!!!

So, until next time.....slow down and enjoy the last few days of summer!!!!
