Ahh, field day. One of the joys of being a teacher! This is the first year I've gotten to experience this joy (it rained last year), and although we had some tense moments when we thought we might get wet, it really was a fun day for all.
I love watching the kids trying their hardest for a ribbon, and the most of all the admiration of their peers! I love watching them cheer on their classmates...especially the ones who are probably not going to place. I love watching my normally poor sports get into doing a good job. Most of all, I just love watching my kids have fun!
I also had a very good weekend, and Mother's Day. My beautiful babies made me breakfast (at the table b/c last year we spilled it when they served it to me in bed!), and had fun homemade presents for me. Then, their dad asked me what I really would like....take the kids away for an afternoon, or go somewhere with them. TOUGH CHOICE! But, I knew they would have been very disappointed if I would have choosen to have an afternoon to myself, so I compromised and said I would really like to go to shopping in a real mall. I had never been to Columbia before, (and dad was very excited they had a Hoooters!!) so off we went. It was really fun, and I'm very glad we went, although by the end of the day the kids were shopped out. But, we spent a long time in Barnes and Noble, and all found books we'd "love" to have. I may have to order some for upcoming birthdays and such! Then we went to Macaroni Grill for dinner and had an awesome meal. (I LOVE their bread...who am I kidding, I love most any bread! :) I'm really glad I choose to spend the day with them instead of by myself.
So, tomorrow, I get to go on a field trip with my son. I never get to do things just with my son, so this should be fun! And, I get to go as a parent, not as a teacher. I'm really looking forward to just watching him interact with his classmates. Hopefully I can leave my teaching role behind and just be a mom. And maybe, just maybe, I'll be able to stop at Target on the way home! :)
