One of my life goals that I have posted on my side bar is to be debt free by the time I'm 40. I honestly think I might make it! Yeah!! :) I'm so proud of myself, because I have taken control of my finances, and my budget, and I'm making it work. I guess it would be bad fashion to post the exact details here, but I'm so excited I'm going to give some random thoughts.
In March of this year, our church offered Finacial Peace University. This is a budget/finance type class video led by Dave Ramsey. I think it's safe to say, I'm in love. ;) Dave's system has got me on a budget (that I created, so I get to choose where the money goes), and is giving me the chance to monthly review where I am, where I've been, and where I want to go. I've learned more about money that I ever thought I'd need to know, but I'm also now able to make decisions beyond just, can I pay the bills this month? I CAN get ahead. I have a savings account that is full, to me, and I will be debt free in 2011, sooner if I get some tax refunds or summer school money (not this years, though!) I feel pretty darn good about my finacial situation, given that I'm living on a teacher's salary raising three kids! No, we're not going to Disney World this year, but if they wanted to, we could next year. It's all in the planning, and I'm choosing to be a grown up and plan! Oh, and next session our church has this, I'm going to be a leader of a small group so I can continue to be accountable to someone, and continue on this track.

That's my note of positive among the chaos in my life today! :)
Good for you Missy! I love Dave Ramsey too :)
ReplyDeleteYay Missy, I'm SO proud of you!! I know I shirked last time, but if your church does do it again, let me know. And don't let me say no, okay???? Remind me of this post! Being debt free in even five years sounds amazing!!!
