How Low Can you Go?

Thanks to my friend Kez (who lives in Australia), I'm going to spend the rest of the month looking very closely at what I spend. I honestly do this already, but I know I have some leaks in my spending, and I want to get them out of there! So, here's to Kez's How Low Can you Go Challenge! :)

Yesterday, I spent a lot of money. Let's see, for breakfast I had McD's sausage burrito and a Large Dt. Coke ($2.16), then for lunch I had a Taco Bell meal (about $4, I already threw away the receipt!) Yuck....fast food twice in one day!

Then, after school, I went to Wal-Mart for a few groceries, and spent $55.56. I think I must get giddy when I'm shopping for just myself!! I bought...sugar, coleslaw, cottage cheese, frozen stir fry, italian dressing, 5 muffin mixes, dried fruit mix, peanut butter, chicken egg rolls, weight watchers ice cream---by the way, not so weight watchers when you eat both sundaes in one night!!) carmel topping, flour tortillas, and.....a tire inflator. Oh, and a microwave meal.

Just to be clear, all of yesterday's spending came out of my budgeted food cash (yep, even the tire inflator. Hm, maybe I should have taken that out of my gas fund?), but yikes! Good thing there is another pay day this month! (I should also mention that last weekend, we were out of town, so we ate out both meals on Sunday...I spent a good chunk of my food cash on that!)

Today, I'm hoping not to spend anything. I have food at home for dinner, and it won't even take me long to get it ready, but we have a soccer game at 4, and I'm guessing my kids will be HUNGRY, just because the option is there. I'm bringing the dried fruit and soda, and possibly popcorn, though, so maybe I can resist the temptation to not let them buy just to buy?

Wish me luck!

  1. That's a good idea to watch the cash daily. I write it out monthly. When we go to ballgames, church, or basically anywhere I always take stuff to snack on. It saves a lot of money!

  2. That sounds like one of my shopping trips of late - the reason I started the challenge :) Go in for one thing and come out $50 poorer :)

    Good luck!
